DENVER - The US Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) federation of non-profit public advocacy groups has launched a campaign for action to stop fashion companies from destroying unsold clothing.

US PIRG says much of the clothing and textiles sent to landfill or incineration is overstock that has never been worn but is being disposed of to make way for new merchandise.

It has launched a campaign urging US states to use their legislative powers to hold the industry accountable for its overproduction and ban the destruction of overstock.
