SAN FRANCISCO – Workers’ rights NGO Remake is targeting apparel brands H&M, Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, American Eagle and C&A as it steps up its campaign to extend the legally-binding agreement behind the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh.
Global unions and fashion brands recently came to a last minute deal to prevent the agreement expiring at the end of May but it was only extended for three months and is now set to expire at the end of August.
The temporary respite was agreed to allow time for negotations on a longer lasting solution. The legal agreement makes brands who sign up for it legally responsible for garment worker safety in the factories that make their clothes in Bangladesh.
