DELHI – Control Union, one of the world’s largest certifiers of organic cotton is pulling out of the crop in India, with indications that more certifier suspensions are imminent in the country which grows over half of the world’s organic cotton fibre.
Control Union Certifications India has now formally written to its clients in India to say it will temporarily withdraw from certifying organic cotton and its clients will need to have new, substitute certifications in place by May 15.
The news follows on from our exclusive feature Breaking point for organic cotton integrity, which appeared in the April 2022, printed edition of Ecotextile News.
