COLOMBO – The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Sri Lanka’s garment manufacturing body, has teamed up with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to implement the latter’s Respectful Workplaces Programme across the nation’s apparel sector.

The programme aims to address gender-based violence and harassment, including bullying, sexual harassment and sexual exploitation within the workplace in order to protect employees, many of which are women.

“JAAF in collaboration with IFC has scheduled the conduct of training programmes in the coming months to enhance awareness of the topic in the industry. The apparel industry is committed to uplifting the working conditions for its employees given that it is one of the largest employers in the country,” a JAAF statement said.
