The message from COP 27 was unequivocal – climate change is THE number 1 priority for mankind. In textiles, I’d agree that this is also a very high priority, but we also must take a holistic view and consider a basket of metrics to carry out our activities responsibly.
Of course, you must look for the unintended consequences of any actions, whilst at the same time acknowledging that although many proposed solutions may not be perfect, they do have an overall positive effect.
I’ve firmly nailed my colours to the ‘anti-greenwash’ mast for many years but unfortunately there are an increasing number of individuals and organisations who have taken this to extremes and are highlighting any deviation from perfection with a single metric for any product, company or industry initiative that tries to make the world a better place.
