A devastating earthquake in Turkey earlier this year wreaked havoc and distress across an area in which an estimated 350,000 people work in fashion and textile supply chains.

New analysis seeks to assess whether these workers have since been sufficiently supported.

Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) has compiled a report drawing on survey responses from 16 major apparel brands and 202 manufacturers to contextualise the measures taken in the intervening months.

Penelope Kyritsis, a labour rights researcher, strategist and writer, who works as a consultant with the WRC, shares her views on how – despite lessons having been learned from the chaotic and callous response to order delays caused by the Covid pandemic crisis – meaningful support has once again been lacking.
