DHAKA - At least two people have been killed after protests over garment workers' wages escalated in Bangladesh where thousands of angry workers clashed with security forces and damaged at least 40 factories.

Trade union leaders accused police of killing maintenance technician Rasel Hawlader, 26, who died after he was reportedly shot in the chest and right hand during a protest in the city of Gazipur.
