The Bangladesh Labour Foundation has published a scathing assessment of the socio-economic conditions facing the country’s home-based ready-made garment workers
A new study has identified an increasing lack of protections and a raft of vulnerabilities facing homebased, ready-made garment workers (HBRMGW) in Bangladesh.
The study, carried out by the Bangladesh Labour Foundation, found that nearly 99% of workers are paid in cash with no bargaining power over wages, and that 93.6% work on a piece rate basis, sometimes for as little as $0.005 per item (BDT 0.60).
