Textile Exchange’s latest reports reveal that soaring global production is putting the industry’s climate change targets in jeopardy
LONDON - Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the production of raw materials for the apparel, home textiles and footwear industry have risen by 20% over the past five years, according to Textile Exchange’s latest figures.
The increase is fuelled by record-breaking global production which reached about 132 million tonnes in 2024 - equivalent to four tonnes of fibre every second - up from 125 million tonnes in 2023.
