Brands urged to back Bangladesh wage rise

Campaigners demand buyers absorb higher labour costs and support a 32,000 taka ($257) minimum monthly wage as garment protests continue

AMSTERDAM — The Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) has urged brands sourcing from Bangladesh to support a minimum monthly garment wage of 32,000 taka ($257) and fund higher labour costs.

The demand would raise the current minimum of 12,500 taka ($102) by 156%, as workers continue to protest over pay, blacklisting and restrictions on union activity.
