Brexit causes doubt on textile chemical rules

Although Great Britain has voted to leave the European Union, the only thing certain for what this means in terms of the environmental impact of textile production is uncertainty. Some UK importers of textile and clothing are already questioning if REACH regulations will apply to them going forward, or will they be eventually watered down?

Research tests recycled versus virgin denim

Researchers in the UK who carried out strength and tear tests to compare recycled jeans with standard jeans found the recycled samples compared well with the standard samples, with the maximum load levels needed to tear the fabrics being of a similar level in terms of tear strength.

New Swedish research claims that automated sorting technology has the ability to significantly increase the recycling of textiles.

Bangladesh safety groups cut ties with 113 factories

Global apparel businesses have now severed ties with 113 ready-made-garment businesses due to their failure to carry out required remediation work following inspections by the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety and Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh.

Apparel sourcing at Texworld USA

Billed as the largest apparel sourcing event in North America, Texworld USA returns to New York this July.

Designers, merchandisers, sourcing professionals and garment buyers will have the opportunity to see apparel fabrics, trims and accessories for children’s, women’s and menswear, with showcased textiles including cotton, denim, linen and wool.

Texworld USA will be held 12-14 July 2016 at the Javits Convention Center, 655 West 34th Street, New York.
