WASHINGTON DC - The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) are to work together to increase trade access for Bangladesh to the US market.
The two trade bodies have signed a memorandum of understanding which will also see them try to improve purchasing practices and build on sustainability improvements in the Bangladeshi garment industry.
In particular, the AAFA will support Bangladesh by advocating for the restoration of Bangladesh's GSP (Generalised System of Preferences) status which was suspended following the Rana Plaza disaster of 2013.
