MILPITAS - French fashion group Kering and Danish retailer Bestseller have helped biotech startup VitroLabs raise US$46 million to build and scale pilot production of its lab-grown leather.

The Series A funding round, led by venture capital firm Agronomics, was also supported by Khosla Ventures, New Agrarian, Regeneration.VC and Hollywood actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio.

The investment will be used to fast-track commercialisation, including the expansion of the Californian company's scientific, manufacturing, and business development teams.
