YANGON – Around 2,000 garment workers have reportedly gone on strike over pay and conditions in what is said to be the first major industrial action in Myanmar since last year’s military coup.

The workers are employed by the JW factory in Yangon’s Zaykabar Industrial Park and claim the company keeps cutting their pay while demanding they work longer hours.

The Myanmar Now independent news service says the factory supplies international brands including Crivit Sports which sells clothes via Amazon and eBay.
