PHNOM PENH – Discussions regarding the revised minimum wages of garment workers in Cambodia have started, as union representatives yesterday met with members of the National Minimum Wage Council.

The meeting was described by local news outlets as “preliminary”, with stakeholders first set to gather information relating to the cost-of-living to gauge whether current wages account for inflated prices.

At present, the monthly wage for a garment worker is around US$194, but National Trade Union Coalition (NTUC) president Far Saly believes a pay increase shouldn’t fall short of US$204.
