DHAKA – Hundreds of export-oriented ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh are still “not under the purview of any inspection mechanism at present”, according to the Bangladesh Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).
During a press briefing for the release of a new report, “Challenges to Maintain Workplace Safety in the Garment Industry”, the CPD said these garment factories posed a significant safety risk to workers, because they still operate outside existing monitoring frameworks – 10 years after the Rana Plaza disaster.
