TIGRAY - The IndustriALL global trade union is calling for the restoration of Ethiopia's trading privileges which were lost as a result of human rights issues during the civil war which ended last year.

It claims former garment workers and their families are facing abject poverty in Ethiopia after thousands of jobs were lost following the loss of the US African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade benefits.

Leading global fashion companies, including Swedish retailer H&M and US company PVH which owns Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, subsequently put a halt on sourcing garments from Ethiopia.
