Network of social enterprises argues that reusing textiles beats recycling in terms of cutting the sector’s environmental impacts

BRUSSELS - The RREUSE network is urging the European Union (EU) to introduce binding reuse targets for textiles as part of a wider push to cut Europe’s mounting material footprint and align waste law with the circular economy.

In a new report, RREUSE argues that reusing textiles is one of the most efficient ways to cut the sector’s climate and resource impacts, pointing to claims that a 10% increase in secondhand clothing sales could save around 3% of the sector’s CO₂ emissions and 4% of water use.
