EU Ombudsman slams due diligence law changes

BRUSSELS - The European Ombudsman has delivered a scathing verdict against the European Commission, concluding that legislative moves to weaken major EU climate and sustainability laws were marred by a lack of transparency, evidence and due process.

The watchdog found the Commission guilty of “maladministration” in how it prepared the so-called 'Omnibus' reforms earlier this year to scale back flagship legislation including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
