ECHA calls for broad EU-wide PFAS ban

HELSINKI – Scientific experts at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) have called for a ban, with certain exemptions, on the use of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) across the European Union (EU).

ECHA’s Risk Assessment Committee (RAC), in its final opinion, and the Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC), in its draft opinion, both support an EU-wide restriction, “subject to specific derogations”, on the manufacture, placing on the market and use of PFAS.
