Pakistan defends record on forced labour

Pakistan responded to a US forced labour probe that could result in punitive tariffs on its textile and apparel exports

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has presented its official response to a US Trade Representative (USTR) Section 301 investigation targeting 60 economies over alleged failures to prohibit imports of goods produced with forced labour – with its textiles and apparel sector firmly in the crosshairs.

Pakistan’s ambassador to the US also attended the public hearing in person at the US International Trade Commission (USITC), delivering an oral statement on the country’s behalf. The hearings, which opened on 28th April, are scheduled to run until 14th May 2026.
