US targets 60 states over forced labour tariffs

The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed additional tariffs of up to 12.5% on imports from 60 economies over alleged failures to curb trade in goods made with forced labour.

The plan follows a Section 301 investigation launched in March into whether trading partners “failed to impose and effectively enforce” import bans on forced labour products, after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s earlier emergency tariffs.
