US textile mills reported growth in new orders and production in October, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s (ISM) Manufacturing PMI report.
Textile mills led 11 industries reporting higher new orders. The sector also ranked fourth among 11 industries reporting production growth.

The overall manufacturing PMI rose to 55.5% in October, up from 54.5% in September. New orders increased 0.2 percentage points to 55.5%, while production rose 2.3 percentage points to 59.0% – the highest reading since November 2021.
“Of the five subindexes that make up the PMI, four (New Orders, Production, Supplier Deliveries and Inventories) grew faster than the previous month, while Employment growth slowed down by 0.3 percentage point,” said Susan Spence, chair of the ISM Manufacturing Business Survey Committee.
The rebound follows September, when ISM recorded textile mills among industries reporting contractions in both new orders and production.
The data suggests improving demand for US-made textiles, although the survey does not disclose sector-specific figures. Elevated input costs and trade uncertainty remain broader pressures on US manufacturers.
