Wool study shows biodegradeable potential
Research commissioned by The New Zealand Merino Company has found that garments made of merino wool only take about nine months to biodegrade after disposal in landfill. Clearly an interesting, if not somewhat anecdotal example of research. But, while any exploration into the biodegradability of clothing and textiles should be applauded, it does nevertheless beg the question, why not recycle wool instead?

Textiles once again remained one of the brightest sectors of the UK organic industry with sales of certified organic textile products licensed by the Soil Association growing by 2% in 2011 despite the fact that overall UK sales of organic products fell by 3.7% last year to a value of £1.67 billion.
