BRUSSELS – The European Parliament forum, which discussed progress in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector on Tuesday, should have been a platform for workers to share their experiences, believes the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC).

Employers, multi-stakeholder initiatives and academics converged on the Belgian capital of Brussels earlier this week to discuss the state of affairs in the Southeast Asian nation’s apparel industry but, whilst recognising that there’s “still a lot of room for improvement” to protect vulnerable workers within supply chains, evidence of export growth seemed to offset the urgency with which it's thought action is needed.

“Clean Clothes Campaign believes a reality check on the situation of the garment industry in Bangladesh is direly needed,” the NGO has stated. The workers’ rights body has highlighted a number of issues that are yet to be resolved in the country.
