TOKYO – Three UK-based researchers who have published several papers exploring the prevalence of textile-derived microfibres polluting waterways and wildlife populations have been recognised as winners of the 2023 Blue Planet Prize.

Professor Richard Thompson of the University of Plymouth, Professor Tamara Galloway from the University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory’s Professor Penelope Lindeque have been recognised for their leading work across the broader field of marine microplastics.

The prize winners names may well appear familiar to Ecotextile News readers, as several of their studies have been covered over recent years.
