AZANGARO - Police have charged five shearers at the world's largest privately owned alpaca farm with animal cruelty following an undercover investigation by the PETA animal welfare organisation.

PETA submitted a formal complaint to the Peruvian police after its investigators filmed alpacas being cut and having their wounds sewn up without adequate pain relief at the Mallkini alpaca farm, near Muñani.
