XINJIANG – China’s Xinjiang region has reported a record cotton harvest for 2025 just as a new 22km‑long mountain tunnel comes online to tighten the region’s overland links with Central Asia, developments that together could reshape the logistics of China’s cotton and textile trade.

Official statistics show Xinjiang’s 2025 cotton output reached 6.165 million tonnes, accounting for 92.8% of China’s total production of 6.641 million tonnes in the region where allegations of forced labour persist.
