Allbirds launches new plant-based footwear

US footwear brand partners with Modern Meadow, becoming the first to launch shoes made with Innovera material

SAN FRANCISCO – US footwear brand Allbirds has launched the first footwear to feature biotechnology pioneer Modern Meadow's plant-based Innovera alt leather material.

Innovera - made with plant-based proteins, biopolymers and recycled nylon 6 sourced from end-of-life tyres - has been used in automotive interiors, wallets and handbags, but this is the first time it has been used to make shoes.
