German TV investigation claims there are widespread transparency gaps in the Sellpy resale platform – a business majority owned by the H&M Group
BERLIN – A new investigative documentary has alleged failures in the supply chain of Sellpy, the resale platform majority-owned by the H&M Group, revealing that textiles designated for recycling or donation are entering opaque global waste streams.
The investigation, broadcast by Germany’s SWR network as part of its ‘team.recherche’ format, tracked twelve items of clothing using tracking devices over an 18 month period. The findings contradict Sellpy’s corporate marketing, which promises customers that unsaleable items will be “donated or recycled,” contributing to a circular economy.
