El Corte Inglés banks on textile re‑use

MADRID – With large fashion and retail companies in the EU now banned from destroying unsold apparel, clothing accessories and footwear under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Spain’s El Corte Inglés is already turning circularity initiatives into compliance.

The department store recently revealed that it had recovered more than 100,000 tonnes of waste in 2025 and avoided over 61,000 tonnes of CO₂‑equivalent emissions, with more than 330 stores and platforms now certified as Zero Waste.
