The new version of the Cradle to Cradle standard focuses more on measurable product and production data – aligning more closely with EU regulatory frameworks
AMSTERDAM/SAN FRANCISCO – Taking effect today, the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard has been significantly overhauled with the release of version 5.0 – marking the most substantial revision since the current standard framework was established.
The headline change is a deliberate shift away from organisational-level levers for sustainability and towards product and production-specific evidence. Where the previous (version 4.1) allowed companies to demonstrate compliance partly through company-wide management systems and processes, the new iteration demands more granular, product-level documentation across all five certification categories: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air & Climate Protection, Water & Soil Stewardship, and Social Fairness.
