New CO2 process ‘un-dyes’ polyester

A new process that uses liquid CO2 for the decoloration of dyed polyester fibres has the potential to accelerate closed-loop textile recycling by greatly improving the quality of recycled raw material inputs. New research is now underway to see if this technique can be used to remove textile finishes and other auxiliary chemicals from fabrics.

BCI weighs up consumer label options

The Better Cotton Initiative is assessing the options for creating a consumer-facing BCI label. The BCI confirmed the news to Ecotextile News as it revealed new projections that show Better Cotton is making major progress towards becoming a commodity fibre and expects to account for around 7 per cent of world cotton production in 2014.

International fabric and garment accessory trade fair Interstoff Asia Essential will return in September, offering a variety of fashionable, functional and eco fabrics, garments and accessories, as well as seminars regarding fashion trends, new technologies and sustainability. 

This fair will also feature a demonstration of the 'world’s first' liquid ammonia processing technology for knitted fabrics, as well as its energy-efficient CPB dyeing system, brought by the Korea High Tech Textile Research Institute. The institute will host a seminar session to further explain their new sustainable technologies.
