ZWOLLE – Control Union Certifications (CUC) has criticised ‘dubious companies’ for the decision by the European Commission to withdraw its license to certify organic goods in five key regions.

In a statement from CUC received by Ecotextile News, the certification company claimed that because the “European organic sector is flourishing,” the number of requests for auditing and certification is also growing. “There is, however, a downside as the success of organic also attracts dubious companies keen on getting a piece of the pie,” said the Dutch-based business.

But do traditional methods of organic supply chain traceability, integrity and certification have any longevity when it comes to protection against determined fraudsters?

Here we talk to Mrinal Bose, from Indian organic cotton fibre to garment specialist Pratibha Syntex which is now trialling blockchain technology to improve supply chain integrity and prevent fraud in the Indian organic cotton sector.
