Survey finds labels from major retailers in Accra’s discarded clothing, renewing calls for producer responsibility and controls on unusable imports
ACCRA – Greenpeace Africa has identified garments bearing Primark, Marks & Spencer and H&M labels in a survey of 201 discarded clothes collected from James Town Beach, Kantamanto Market and Agbogbloshie in Accra.
The organisation said the audit aimed to highlight the environmental burden of clothing waste and urge fashion companies and Ghana’s government to act. Identifying a label does not establish who exported or discarded an individual garment.
