HANOI – US apparel companies are again urging President Joe Biden to send vaccines to supply countries, such as Vietnam, which are struggling to cope with the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brands including Nike and Gap have warned that ongoing lockdowns in Vietnam, where more than a third of factories are closed, have left them struggling for stock.

Vietnam overtook Bangladesh last year to become the world’s second biggest garment exporter, after China, but coronavirus cases have surged five-fold in a few short months.
