LONDON – Manufacturing facilities in sectors including textiles and chemicals will need to adopt ‘sustainable’ best practices to prevent or minimise carbon emissions, as part of a new programme launched by the British government.
Based on the European Commission’s existing Best Available Techniques (BAT) programme, the UK’s authorities say it moves away from the regulatory framework widely adopted on the continent and towards “one that better caters to UK businesses”.
Environment Minister Steve Double commented: “Tackling emissions is essential to reduce the damaging effects of air, water and land pollution on people and the environment. The new framework and collaborative approach will ensure higher standards for industrial emissions across the UK and a more effective governance structure.”
