BERLIN – A new report on 100 leading brands and retailers – from Armani to Zalando – which sell leather garments, shoes and accessories says there is a lack of transparency on workers’ rights and the use of hazardous substances.
The study, from the INKOTA human rights organisation and the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO), says only 29 – less than a third – of the companies surveyed publish a list of suppliers.
It argues that the findings show that the companies surveyed must become much more transparent if they are to meet the requirements of the German supply chain law and future EU mandatory due diligence legislation.
