EU inspectors found systemic mislabelling of fibre content in garments sold online and in stores, raising concerns over consumer protection, recycling and fair competition
BRUSSELS – An EU-wide enforcement campaign has found “systemic” problems with inaccurate fibre composition labels on clothing, after 37% of tested items failed to match what was stated on their tags.
The findings land as Brussels prepares tighter rules on product data and durability under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and a revision of the EU Textile Labelling Regulation, which is expected to expand information requirements and enable digital labelling tools.
